To be eligible for Unarmed Security Officer/Guard registration in Tennessee, you must:

• Be at least 18 years of age.

Disqualifying Offenses: You will be disqualified if you have been convicted of (or are currently completing a sentence/probation for) any felony, or any misdemeanor involving:

• Shooting a firearm or other weapon.
• Shoplifting, theft of property, or theft of services.
• Assault, battery, or other acts of violence against persons or property.
• The sale, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances, analogs, drugs, or narcotics.
• Be a citizen of the United States or a legal resident alien.
• Be of good moral character.
• Not be suffering from chronic drunkenness, narcotics addiction, or dependence.
• Not possess any physical or mental disability that prevents performing the duties of a security guard.
• Not have been declared incompetent by any court due to mental defect or disease (unless subsequently declared competent).
• Submit electronic fingerprints for processing TBI and/or FBI criminal history checks.

RENEWALS & LATE RENEWAL TIME PERIOD

• Unarmed Guards/Officers must renew registration every two (2) years.
• Unarmed security guards must complete two hours of refresher training every two (2) years and pass a multiple-choice test with a minimum score of 70% before renewing their guard registration.
• A 90-day late renewal period is available for license renewal.
• Unarmed security officers can renew during this time but cannot work with an expired license.
